An open gathering space on the sea that that has formed part of the landscape of Cadaqués since 1946. Bar Boia is a traditional meeting point for the Cadaquesen community. With the arrival of the first tourists, it became a gathering space where these people mixed with natives. Many famous individuals have sat at this special vantage point of the bay of Cadaqués. Artists such as Salvador Dalí, Man Ray, Marcel Duchamp, Richard Hamilton, John Cage and Merce Cunningham, Antonio Pitxot, Joan Josep Tharrats, Ràfols-Casamada,Oriol Maspons, Carlos Pazos or Francesc Català-Roca. Writers like Gabriel García Márquez, Carles Barral, Javier Tomeo, J.V. Foix, or Josep Pla. Actors including Kirk Douglas, Yul Brynner, Fernando Rey, Marcel Borràs, Aina Clotet, Marc Clotet,Eduard Fernandez, Miki Esparver,Natalia Sánchez or Kit Harrington... Manel Vehi is the new descendant of the founding ancestry of Bar Boia. Despite his youth, he has had the privilege of having special training under the care of the best teachers of contemporary hospitality. Along with Ferran Adrià and Juli Soler, he had his first lesson at the legendary El Bulli. He has worked at Tickets-BCN and 41º with Albert Adrià and the Iglesias brothers, completing his international experience with stays at extremely prestigious establishments, such as The Aviary in Chicago with Grant Achatz, Jaleo in Washington with José Andrés and Soeta in Brazil, alongside Bárbara Verzola and Pablo Pavón. In the winter of 2013, he advised the cocktail bar at the Sheraton Escazú hotel in San José, Costa Rica. In the winter of 2014-2015, Manel Vehí, along with Redouan el Badri, also advised the Cinemex entertainment centre in Alboa, Santa Fe (Mexico). Once in Cadaqués, Manel shared an extensive menu of cocktails and mixed drinks with us, which reveal his acquired experience, and, at the same time, a creative spirit that has many pleasant surprises in store. This past 2016, they opened the cocktail bar 'DOBLE by Manel Vehí' in Barcelona, where they share the establishment with the restaurant L'EGGS by Paco Pérez.
Also, Manel works as a creative consultant for the collection of luxury boutique hotels, Único Hotels, designing the creative cocktails menu for their City Bar & Restaurant, located in the Grand Hotel Central of Barcelona, and the Ático restaurant, located in The Principal Madrid Hotel.
Manel Vehí just added a new achievement to his career in winning the final of the world championship of mixology, Mediterranean Inspirations, organized by the prestigious brand GinMare and celebrated this past September 8th in Ibiza. As a result, he has become the new ambassador of the brand on a global scale. He participated as a state representative, along with the best mixologists from Mexico, Brazil, Portugal, the United Kingdom, Italy and Germany, after having won the championship in Vilanova i la Geltrú this past June 8th. The winning mixologists were named 'Gin Tonic Kontos' (Kontos is the surname of the maternal grandparents of Manel, natives of the Greek islands), 'Cinque Terre' (prepared with different Mediterranean products, including plankton and sea fennel from Cadaqués) and the cocktail 'Azahar' (paired with a gastronomic proposal from chef Ramón Freixa which is composed of azahar – orange blossom – macerated with pepper from Madagascar, rhubarb juice and essence of cinnamon). Manel is the fourth generation of owners of Bar Boia, which celebrated its 69th anniversary in 2015.
In 2016 Manel Vehí won the award for the Sidecar by Merlet Cocktail Competition. Manel Vehí of 'DOBLE by Manel Vehí' and 'Boia Nit' in Cadaqués stood out in the Sidecar by Merlet competition at Barcelona's Bitter Cocktail Bar. The judges composed of the experts, Luc Merlet from Destil·leries Merlet & Fils, Marcis Dzelzainis of Abacus Drinks, Eduard Campos of Negroni cocktail bar and Sergio Padilla Molia from Boca Chica cocktail bar. With this victory, he represented Spain in the European final in the month of January in the region of Cognac. This 2017, Manel Vehí, along with Jonathan Pallaruelo has won the state championship, The Excellence Project, the mixology competition held by Maxxium Spain with the cocktail 'Good Friends.' The winning pair found inspiration from the classic cocktail 'The Macallan', with a whisky base. Jesús Vázquez presented the championship and the judges composed of Diego Guerrero (chef from DSTAge), Erik Lorincz (current Head Bartender of the American Bar from the Savoy Hotel in London), Trendy Taste (fashion blogger) and Javier Jiménez (general manager of Maxxium Spain).
